Struggling to see the damned 1/8 moa dot

Looking for someone who has found an optician who understood vision correction for shooters. I wear toric soft contacts for correction of astigmatism and far sightedness. I struggle to see the damned 1/8 moa dot. No combination of ocular adjustment, reading glasses or eye position helps. At what distance should the correction be optimized for?

Thanks,

Bob Turner

I had the EXACT same eye sight problem you are currently experiencing. I spoke with a world renowned eye doctor here in Houston who has literally done about 100K LASIK procedures and does extensive eye surgeries. He told me to get "mono-vision". With my dominate eye set for "long-range" (long range is anything past 4 feet) and my other eye set for close range. It took a few weeks to get used to it and a few months to get this "invisible wall" out from my "mind's eye" illusion. However, once done, it has been fantastic.

Three of my rifles have the old NightForce CH-3 reticle and it has a 0.088 center dot! Not only can I see the dot, I can read the number UNDER the dot as I aim at the 1000 yard F-Class target! I believe you can get your contacts set for "mono-vision" >>>However, you had better speak to a EYE DOCTOR to make sure.. Best of luck my friend! I hope this tid-bit of info helps..

Bob,
Not sure it'll make a difference, but what kinda scope do you have?

Alex

I switched from F-Class to sling shooting about 7 months ago. I had a terrible trying to shoot iron sights with contacts in. I ended up speaking with Neal Stepp from ISS in Fort Worth. He was very knowledgable about prescription shooting glasses. I wear knoblocks now but a pair of junkers may work better with a scope

Thanks for all the responses guys. To answer a couple of questions. My contacts are mono vision torics.

Problem is spread across several different scopes with a Leupold BR-D with what must be ultra fine crosshairs and dot is the toughest.

NF ranging reticle with a cross and no dot is the best and NF double dot is right there with the BR-D.

And NO Pastor - not switching to ping pong but if I did I would clean your clock!

I have this problem, had it for a year or so. Just got back from the Doctor last week and they have reduced the power of the astigmatism in my right eye (Dom). The doctor is confused as he claims that usually doesn't happen to this degree. I am again at 20/15 in both eyes corrected with contacts. Been wearing contacts for 51 years now.
