Stripping paint off gun.....?

I built a tactical shotgun a while back and got some of that black paint from brownells... the brownells brand... scrubbing it with fingernail polish remover acetone was taking it off slowly... anything else better to use that will strip all the paint?

I have a buddy thats been playing with carakote im gonna let play on it...

If you want a good cerakote job, it needs to be blasted off with clean coarse media. Stripping with chemicals isn't going to be the correct prep.

Klean strip paint stripper works great, I wouldn't use it on synthetics but for wood and metal it's amazing.

The stuff is extremely potent and will burn like heck if it comes in contact with your skin so be careful.

I would be real hesitant to use a chemical stripper on this because it might absorb in the stock and cause problems later.
Soda blasting would be hard to beat for this job.

10 3 my last... now that i clicked on the link that klean stripper is a spray... that may work easy... why scrub when i could just spray... work smart not hard!

If you were to get a classic Corvette painted, more than likely it would be soda blasted.
It's the best way of removing paint there is, does not harm whats underneath and there is nothing to absorb into the surface like a chemical stripper.

Go to an auto parts store and get a can of aircraft paint stripper big black can. It'll do the job. I stopped dura oat off my rifke and it'll take powder coating off too. About 12 bucks. Follow the directions and it'll come off in about 5 mins

This is the wheel I did on my motorcycle
Spray it on thick. Let sit for a few minutes

Hit it with the spray nozzle on the hose

I did it twice to remove all the paint off the aluminum

zip strip from ace hardware. wear gloves and go outside. it will burn your skin if it comes in contact. works like no other chemical I have tried.

Don't understand why you don't just let your buddy who's going to CeraKote it hit it with degreaser, then blast in preparation for the CK. Got to be done anyway, so why screw around with nasty chemicals instead?

I'm with flatlander, blast the stock on LOW pressure with 120 grit Alum Oxide and be done with it. I did one a few weeks ago and it took forever with chemicals. I used Citri-something that was highly recomended and it was tedious, blasting is the way to go.

Well, if the metal parts don't have a blasted finish before your buddy shoots them with CeraKote, it's not gonna stick very well. That's why we were wondering why you didn't just blast the old paint off - 'cause you're gonna have to get the parts blasted anyway - if you want the CK to adhere worth a hoot.
