STRIPPED SCREW HOLE

1911cwp

You don't know what you don't know.
I have a Savage Palma that I was breaking down to clean and retorque. Upon inserting the rearmost screw into the trigger guard, which does not tighten the action, just attaches the trigger guard to the stock, I found the stock had been stripped. How would you suggest I repair this properly? A longer screw is not an option.

Depends on the stock material. If it is wood drill it out and epoxy in a wood dowel, drill a pilot hole and reinsert the woodscrew. If it is fiberglass with a metal insert you'll need to replace the metal insert. If it is glass with a woodscrew you can drill out and insert a metal insert or use a wood or phenolic rod epoxied in. The phenolic rod is sold at Mouser.com as electrical standoffs. They also have a threaded version but maybe not in the size you need. Good luck.

Two ways to do the job, that I've done. First way is to shave down a few small pieces of wood, put a few drops of white wood glue into your hole, push in some of the shavings and reinstall your screw. Let it sit for a couple hours. Or put a few drops of epoxy in the hole. Wax the screw and screew it in gently and wait till the epoxy hardens.

Thanks for the input. RIFLEWOMEN, are you a Ham or associated with EE in any way?
