Im debating on what parts to use for my next build and once again im way over analyzing everything. I really like the 3 lug 60' actions. In particular the badger unit. I was thinking about how the dual lug would effect bedding in regards to expansion and contraction with temperature. Im a steamfitter so knowing the coefficient of expansion when bolting down pipe in multiple locations is key. Thus my question.
How much effect or stress is caused by expansion and contraction due to temperature change. Assuming your like me and enjoy the challenges of shooting in all conditions. Maybe 10 below to how hot a barrel and action can get on the hottest of days. From my experience as a steamfitter it would lend me to believe a single barrel block type setup around the action lug area with the rear and barrel floating would be ideal. Instead of 2 or 3 action bolts. I know the expansion is very minimal but if your bedding job is perfect and your action screws are tight it would make me think its trying to push and pull on your bedding/stock as it expands and contracts. Is there an article on this that i havent stumbled on yet?
