Picked up a barrel blank in trade it is end marked 27 1-11 30 78 ELMO 5R. I have been barreling for years so I know this is a 27 cal with 1 in 11 twist and 5r rifling but who marks their barrels ELMO???? Any help would be appreciated!

Can you tell me more about the blank ? Is it steel or stainless? My first GUESS is it is a 27 caliber 1 in 11 5r twist 30 " long made by Boots Obermeyer in 1978 for the lake Elmo rifle range. Just a guess.

Tha main hole in that guess is the 27 caliber.

A 27 caliber would presumably make it .277 (270) .... a 1:11 twist is pretty slow for that.
However, if you've got the bore nailed down to 27 caliber I'm stumped.
I had originally thought .270, 1:11 twist, 30 inch length,#78 in production with 5R rifling and some connection with the Oakdale Gun Club in Lake Elmo, MN. But there's some flaws in that.

I agree , the 270 has me stumped as well . The 5r and the 78 lines up with boots building out of his garage in 1978 . Things like this drive me nuts trying to salve the puzzle.
