Storing Cerakote

I’ve just been buying the small 4 ounce test bottles of Cerakote since I don’t use that much. Everyone of them has either been real clumpy when I got it got that way within a few weeks of me opening and resealing it. Has anyone had an issue with this? I’m storing at roughly 68 to 70°. Any suggestions or tips would be much appreciated.

Are you buying direct from Cerakote? I’ve never had any that was clumpy when I received it from them. It can (and often will) dry out and thicken over a couple of months (and will not spray as good, even when strained). As mentioned by jkohler, I keep mine in a small fridge as well. For what it’s worth, I also tape around the top where it seals to the bottle.

I store mine if a frig. I have some that's 10+ years old and still good. My gallon of blk. is starting to thicken and it's probably 7 years old.

I just finished up a quart that was probably 10 years old. Always keep it in the fridge. I have a little mini-fridge under a workbench. Works great.

I appreciate it gents. Sanely, yes it’s coming direct from them. I’ll order some more and try the fridge route this time. It would get to be the consistency of kinda like watery clay and it wouldn’t even pour into my beaker to measure and mix so hopefully that works. I tried to get a hold of someone at cerakote to ask them but it’s apparently tough to get a person on the line there. I just hated to buy a larger container since I don’t use that much but, if I can make it last, I’ll go ahead and get the larger ones. Thanks again

I have never had any turn clumpy but I have had some thicken up on me. I would just pour some into a separate container and add a little acetone with an eye dropper and shake it up until the consistency turned more normal. Everything seemed to work fine from there.

A little late getting back but I looked through Cerakote's website and found the storing instructions and it says to avoid working fridge's and store 68-72 in less than 50% humidity. I'm storing it in a Boeing approved paint facility at 70 degrees...hahaha I guess I need to get someone on the line at Cerakote and see if I can get the deal out of them.

Wait a minute…you mean I could also possibly build a rifle that could permanently smell like fried chicken!!! Deep thoughts by Casey…
Not at all this was way cooler. The pan of fried chicken big enough to feed a 4 man army for a week tasted like epoxy. The epoxy didnt get any fried chicken quality.

Crockpot,electric griddle,and mini fridge.....(not for food)

No shop should be without. Big containers,an evac with argon before storing helps extend the cycle. Small containers.... either fridge or write it off.
