Stock Straightness: How does one check?

Nodak7mm

Team Lefse
As the title states? Real curious, wifey bought me a new stock that was higly recommended. Very recently, have heard straightness has been an issue with this mfg...

What am I looking for? Keel to forearm alignment, parallel on the horz axis?

How to check and what can remedy it?

If this is a wood stock it can be corrected (if off) in a mill, by milling the tracking surfaces parallel to the action/barrel axis, but this obviously would require a mill. If its a composite stock about your only option is to have tracking plates mounted and machined to parallel.

About the only way to get some idea of how straight it is without any special tools at hand is to use a straight edge of some type layed parallel with the forend and see if you can visually see if the tracking surfaces on the buttstock are noticeably off

Great answer, thank you....
