Stock refinishing

I bought a Cooper rifle and the finish is still good with no major damage. A few safe bumps at the worst. The finish just looks old and has gotten very dark. I've done a few myself and most turn out OK but there's always something I seem to miss. I'd kinda like to send it to someone who will do a nice job and not cost me an arm or leg. (I know that's asking alot.) I'd like to get a nice satin finish or oil finish and just bring the wood back to where it once was. I haven't ruled out doing it myself but if I sent it to someone who would you folks recommend?

Thanks-Bill

I had a Cooper 38. When it was brand new, I felt the wood looked really dark. It had other, more pressing issues, however. Once sorted it was a nice little squirrel gun.

Do it yourself-
Acquire some arrow oil
Easy to do..
Mask the checkering sand it down- iron out the dents, go to applying & sanding …
Your not gonna diminish the value , only enhance what’s left of it..

I recheckered this one also…
Added pillars, fully bedd action, got rid of the little joke pad,(pulls out with a knife) & floated the barrel..

Both Arrow and Tru-Oil are wiping varnish finishes. Easy to apply but not very durable. A wipe on poly would be just as easy to apply and a bit more durable.

@Bc'z Brett Childress at Hired Gun Painting does amazing work. He is doing stocks for many of the premier competition rifle builders and competitors. You can se some of his work here on AccurateSHooter.

On top of that, he is a great guy!

I sent one to cooper about 10 years ago to get a cpl dings out.
They did a great job. There was a lady there for that specific job I think. I believe she raised the grain and worked it. Can’t tell it was ever dinged.

He has gone out of business, and can not be reached.. Never did find out if it was sold or not.
If your in need I have some...
I was thinking someone like Brownells would have bought him out, Or even yourself. Thanks for the offer. I don't do wood much.

I've sent three emails to them trying to find out when my rifle was made. No reply. Not to sure I want to send my stock to the new company right now.
