Stock Painting

I have been around some stock painting but never got deep into it,but now I'm wanting to paint my own stock olive green with black speckles that are raised.I understand about the sanding and filling hole ect.I need help with the paint part. what I have seen in the past is the stock primered white then painted with an epoxy paint that was mixed with sand in the bottom of the paint gun. I have asked about the speckles and understand that it came from adjusting the paint flow out of the paint sprayer. What primer do I use and where do I get the epoxy paint. What are the mixtures that go together for the epoxy paint? I watch someone mix it in the past it it had 2 or 3 different things in it. Here is a picture of something close to what I'm looking for.

That finish can be achieved with Duracoat or Polane T,same/same) just sand the stock with either 600 or 800 to scuff it up a bit and spray your base coat / main color so you get 100% coverage. The texture is sprayed by simply turning down the air pressure until the paint splatters. You can spray a test pattern on scrap and adjust the pressure until the texture is to your liking. Texture the stock as heavy or as light as you like.

Polane is a great product, but be very careful with it. A good filtered mask, gloves, and long sleeve shirts.

Went by Sherwin Williams and asked about the Polane T paints. Well there are about 8 different 2 part paints and he said they all have gloss. I ask if I could mix white or some type of base to lower the gloss he said he didn't know. I drove by 2 different Sherwin william paint stores and when it comes to epoxy paint they have no clue about it,like me).I also ask if the paint was too thick can I thin it with MEK. They said that didn't know. Also so it only comes in a gallon can. He told me it would be around $125 to $180. Can someone please school me here. Like a 101 class in mixing paint and what to get and where. Thanks

Thanks you butchlambert for the info.I'm closer to home plate now.Polane T Precision Tan is $60.00 a gallon.
catalyst V66V29 is Approx: $26.00.

They said this paint was good only for 6 months sitting in the can and that's why they don't keep it in the store.I guess I need to look into something that will come in a smaller volume to only paint one stock. I'm low rent :D

If I paint my stock with Duracoat I take it the it will be just as good as Polane T ? Do I need to put on a primer or can I just sand and paint.I see that you can buy a 4oz can with hardner for $16.95. Also i see that you can Paint metal with this paint also.I was wondering if you can paint metal with out having an oven? Thanks Everyone for the input.
