Stock Mod Question

Joe C

Student of the 1911.
I have a McM MBR stock and am slightly desirous of an adjustable cheek piece and but plate for my use in F-open. I know the but plate isn't a huge deal, but the cheek piece...well...

Has anyone ever put the hardware in one? I'm not talking about a saddle. I dislike those greatly. The one in reference has a thumb wheel in the stock.

Open to your thoughts.

If you have a milling machine, your half way there..
No big deal just pay attention to the measurements before you cut......

Warner tool has a thumbwheel adjustable that might be what you are looking for:

I haven't installed it myself since I order with it already installed, but I have disassembled it. I can't imagine it would be difficult for you.

Great info gentlemen. Thank you so very much. I have to get on this as the Berger Nationals are coming up!

Warner makes a great piece as well Gretan, Mcm clamp bar etch. All are available and you do the inletting. Actually easy is you got the machinery. Happy shooting.

Do you guys use a band saw to cut the piece off the top of the stock? What is the best option for that in your opinion? I was thinking more that a coping saw might be better but not sure.

A nice straight cutting band saw works for me, not sure if I could control a coping saw on a $500.00 chunk of wood without getting Grayer..

It is possible to inlet the hardware by hand if you do not have a mill. Takes a bit more time but I have been successful several times so far. Drill press is a must though. Master Class and McGee Stocks also have hardware. The McGee unit has a magnetic cheek piece if you need to remove it for bolt removal.
