stock cleaning and jb weld cleaning question

How do I clean a stock with an expensive custom paint job. It obviously has a clear coat, but I don’t want to use a chemical that will hurt it. The other question is I took the rings off that were on it and there was some jb weld between between the bases and the action. Is there a way to clean jb weld off a stocked action?

Thanks!!

The JB Weld is there to bed the scope base. Are you going to change the base?
Yes. It is necessary. I have new ones coming in. The old bases were a little wider and there is some jb weld on action that will be visable that I want to clean up

Once the epoxy sets I think the only way to remove it is with heat. I can’t offer any details as to how, perhaps someone else can.

Because it is set in a stock. I will have to research a chemical solvent. I don’t want the heat to separate if from the stock as well.

Don't want to use heat, then use cold. Dry ice pack it. Epoxy will release with a little effort. If you have liquid nitrogen even better. It's a standard practice used in manufacturing carbon fiber components if you have to disassemble a bonded part.

I typically use a large soldering iron to heat the part locally. Peel off the epoxy.
