Stock Buttplate Adjustment

more than likely you are shouldering the rifle. In other words, you are pushing the rifle slightly with your shoulder as you pull the trigger.

Yes I am. I'm shooting F class, If you will give me more information on what my disciplin should be and what do you do to get proper buttplate adjustment. Thanks for your input

If yo do a search on here, German Salazar did a long instruction on how to set up an adjustable stock.

First take off you scope.
Second collapse everthing and place you cheek on your cheek piece.
Third, once the proper cheek piece placement is found start adjusting the butt plate so that you can place your head on the cheek piece the same way everytime. Turning it left or right is up to you and your position. Shooters may prefer it either way.
After you have this adjustment, mount the scope so that you still have the same cheek weld on your cheek piece. It is all about cheek weld. If you have to move your head to see through your scope, you natural point of aim even shooting F-Class will be off.

I have read Salazar's adjusting the tube gun, I am shooting and RT-10, after talking to German he said that his article was all about Palma and was not sure how it would apply to F-class. I am wondering if you think that Virgil King's discipline from the secrets of the Houston Werehouse is the way to go? I am new and don't want to get started off on the wrong foot it is so hard to correct bad habits when you start them

In my experience, you probably want the buttplate adjusted almost opposite for F-Class as for conventional Prone/Palma, due to the difference in the way the guns are held.

In Palma, you have a tight sling trying to rotate/pull the gun around your front hand (left, for the purposes of this discussion), rotating it 'outboard' or to the right. Most people set up their buttplate cocked slightly out to the right - the idea being that when you seat that into the pocket of your shoulder, the gun will be 'pre-rotated' to the left... and with the tight sling pulling on it, the gun will come up pretty much vertical. Obviously somewhat of a balancing act going on here...

For F-Class, you don't have a sling pulling the gun outboard to the right like that, so just go ahead and rotate the buttplate to the left so that it nestles into the pocket of your shoulder.

Even then, there are some tricks to body positioning that help moderate which way the gun jumps and how much, but mostly those are trial and error on a personal level.

HTH,

Monte

I have a Evoshield shirt, and want to make sure that things are right before the pocket is formed. thanks so much for your help it is great to talk to guys that have been there and done that.
