Stiller vs. shilen actions

Looking for advice from those that have been there and done that. I have bought out a Retiring gunsmith of his lathe and tooling and started chambering my own barrels. I have had good success on Remington actions and would now like to purchase a custom action from Stiller in their predator line or Shilen's DGR/DGV actions. Any advice or expieriences from those that have used these actions good or bad would be much appreciated. One of these days I will get around to posting pics of my first rifle build with some of the groups the rifle produced. It was very gratifying to use a rifle I put together and achieve desired accuracy. Anyways thanks for the advice, love the forum, good shooting.

....and Savage threads so that they can take drop in, nut configured barrels that are made for Savages. This is a very smart move, there are no disadvantages, and some real advantages, the large selection of Remington pattern stocks and triggers with Savage bolt alignment and bolt head interchangeability. If you want to barrel with a shoulder on the barrel, there is no problem.

If you're going with a Stiller Predator and a cartridge with medium to heavy recoil , you may want to consider the Tactical action . They are almost identical with the Tactical having a bigger screw on bolt handle and 8/40 scope base screws vs. 6/48 screws .

I have a shilen barreled action in 20br w/ DGV in rblp configuration on order. Even though stiller makes shilen's actions I don't think they offer the predator in rblp or lbrp configurations as they do for shilen's. Also shilen's come w/ 8-40 taps, not sure about stiller predators. As was said, they also have the savage style floating bolt head only with much tighter tolerances as they are made by pt&g who make all stillers bolts. I ordered mine with the barrel nut as I plan on ordering either a 6br or 243ai barrel for it too. This way I can order barrels without having to send my action to have barrel shouldered for proper headspace, I can easily change barrels and set headspace myself. Can't wait to get it.

i have three stiller predator actions and LOVE them, esp the predator v which is a coned bolt, rblp dingle shot. the smoothness of the predator v coned bolt is fantastic and the left port allows loading at a fast pace. the bolt does not have an ejector, which i like...i remove it from my rem actions. the pinned recoil lug is nice for switch barrel situations.

I just wish Shilen offered its single shot action in a RBRP configuration. I would love to be able to do a true switch barrel hunting rig that I could use both .223 sized and .308 sized case heads. For hunting, I would prefer a right bolt/right port.

If It's for hunting check out their dgr repeater action. It comes in rbrp.

I should have specified a SS RBRP configuration. That would allow me to easily switch between .223, .308, and magnum case head chamberings. SS would make feeding considerations a non issue.

I have a Stiller TAC 30 that i built a 6BR off of.

I love the action, I'll have another one in the future.

Using a single shot.

Interesting...

Does the Remington 700 bottom metal, mag, spring and follower match up to the DGR actions? Or do you have to buy Shilen's bottom metal assembly to complete a repeater?

Really?...That's awesome. The Shilen actions sure have a lot going for them then. That might just have to be the foundation for my next hunting or varmint rig :)

I have to say though that I never used mine as a repeater, I put a single shot follower in it on top of the original follower because it was a 25-06 in a short action. But the Rem factory bottom metal assembly (box, spring and follower fit perfect and looked like it was meant to be there). I don't have it here to look at right now it's at the gunsmith being changed over to a 25-284.
