Stiller Viper action

The Viper uses its tang as a recoil lug but do you know if that is enough or if a external recoil lug is needed?

I am going to be using this action for 284 win.

If any of you has a viper than I would like to know what you did :)

My Stiller was a 6ppc so a recoil lug was not an issue. I bought a used barrel for it here on this sight for a 6br and when it arrived, I went to screw it in and it came up way short. Come to find out it is rather common to put a recoil lug just like Remington uses for some applications where you won't be changing the barrel frequently like I did. The next time I changed barrels I noticed for the first time that my benchrest stock was actually inletted for a recoil lug and had been filled in when the action was glued in. For a 284 I would go with a Remington style recoil lug I believe. Just an opinion as I have never built one. Tom
