stiller action

Hi guys what do you think of the stiller action for a custom rifle .The one i am looking at is DIAMONDBACK our the VIPER action .It is for a 6mmbr rifle that i am geating build Can some one help me please Our what type would you go for

Shaun, you can find plenty of info about this action, and alternatives, by using the SEARCH function. I entered 'stiller' in the search field, one year and newer date range, for the 'Gun Projects' forum, and got 26 topics. More than a couple just like yours. :)

Jerry Stiller and his company have a very good reputation, and he's a supporter of this site and others.

stiller is great, also bat action is top notch. Lawton is very good.Borden is absolutely right up there with these 3. Farley is good, stolle by Kelby is hard to beat, surgeon is top notch, and my favorite action on a budget that you can get shooting right up there with the rest of the big dogs, and that action is a savage target or model 110 action. many guys are shooting savage actions that are timed, trued and lapped and are getting very good results. personally i think the most accuracy comes from your barrel. so as long as your barrel is a good custom barrel and your action is OK then your good to go, rather than custom action on a not so good barrel. you get the idea!

I use a Diamondback and a Viper. I'd suggest the Viper with a Drop-port if you are doing a 6BR/dasher. The drop-ports are the coolest thing...

For a 6 BR I'd look real hard a t a drop port but then again I just like the idea. I've had a predator and you will not be disappointed.

I would look at a Pierce, fit is better than the Predator and you can get a cone bolt and it has one of the best finishes on the market. A stainless action screwed to a stainless barrel is just asking for trouble, you may get it apart or you make the smith money..........jim

If you want a coned bolt on a Stiller Predator, get the PredatorV. If you want to prevent galling when the barrel is installed, use anti-seize,which should be used for any barrel installation). Stiller is not the ONLY way to go, but the performance-to-price ratio is pretty impressive.

Besides the Predator, the Viper is a great deal since it comes with rings and a trigger guard, around $100 worth of stuff if you buy it separately). The Viper comes in any bolt/port/eject configuration, too.

In Benchrest, we have been screwing stainless barrels into stainless actions for a long time. We don't do it dry, and I have seldom heard of a problem. IMO this is a nonexistent problem. The reason that Predators have a looser bolt fit than Vipers and Diamondbacks is that they are hunting actions, and are designed to be used in field conditions where a tighter fit might be a disadvantage. I have friends who have hunting rifles that are built on Predators and am amazed at their accuracy.

Like I said, I am using a Predator and my 6BR is shooting in the .0's and .1's. I am also using a Bartlein Barrel, Jewel Trigger, Tooley MBR stock, etc to go along with the Predator. If you order the Predator, you can ask for a tighter fit, I did.

I have a Diamondback, and a 2 Bat's. I rate the Diamond back right with the Bats.

Wonder how so many BR shooters do it? and they swap out barrels fairly regularly.

Keep it lubed up well and they are no problems, I had well over 15 custom rifles and never a problem.
