Stiller 2500 for a position rifle

I have a feeling that I need a new 22 for this season. Does anyone run a 2500 or similar custon action for a position rifle? Looking for some feedback.

Thanks
Nick

Katie Zaun in ND is shooting one, and breaking national records with it. I looked at it last weekend, very quality piece.

If I were building a gun, 2500x would be an option. For position, I would want the action as far back as possible for easier loading. A Walther kk500 is probably the "easy" route for this.

I have a 10x action in a sitman 1600 prone stock, after years of using an Ahg. I am happy with my setup.

I built my daughter a smallbore rifle using the 2500X, a Shilen Select Match barrel, and a Bix-N-Andy 2-stage trigger. Alex Sitman cloned a 1914 Walnut stock for me and incorporated all the Anschutz Precise pieces into it. On the muzzle end is Eric Uptagrafft's UptaTuner bloop tube. I'm very happy with how it turned out. It weighs 7 ounces more than her 1914 Walnut did and about 8 ounces lighter than a teammate's 1913 Precise. All in all, the cost comes somewhere in between the new Anschutz 54.30 and the Walther KK500. It was a process, but it was fun to dream everything up and see it come together and even more fun to watch my daughter shooting it. With all that said, I agree with @mgdietrich about just getting the KK500 or AHG 54.30. There is another option. Morgen will probably know for sure, but I think Thomas Csenge builds position rifles using a custom action (Turbo??). That would get you a turn-key rifle and not have to wait a year or two to get it. But, if you have the "disease" like I do, go for it!!

Thanks for the information. I will take a look at the kk500.

Flamethrower, that sounds exactly like what I hado in my head. If you don't mind could you send a few pictures of your daughters rifle. Boul70@yahoo.com.

Thanks

Wow, that is a beautiful rifle. That is exactly what I was thinking of building. How does she like the Bix and Andy trigger compared to the Anschutz?

Thank you Nick.

I'm not sure she could ever tell. She's only 13. She just shoots. She had only shot the one with the Anschutz trigger for a year.

Hi Nick:

I have built them into prone rifles, the 2500X is one of the best actions out there (for many reasons).

The only potential problem to keep in mind, is that if you are comfortable with a particular front / rear sight height, it may not work with the 90 degree bolt throw of this action. I shoot a 10 degree cant in position (right handed), so if you try to cant the rear sight - or use a canted Warner mount, the handle will definitely interfere (unless you raise it up as flamethrower did).

I believe Jerry also makes a three lug (called a Trident, I think?). This may be a much better option for prone shooters.

All the best,

kev

Kev,
Thanks for the information. I hadn't even thought about that. I acasually shoot mostly Palma so I am used to a lower profile sight. I will definitely watch this. My Palma rifle has Warner rear and a wright site for the front. I was hoping to use something similar to that.

I have heard of the trident but I really can't find much information on it. And now with the change in hands at the Stiller factory I am kinda fearful of not getting what I want for a year plus. Been there done that and don't want that headache again.

Thanks
Nick
