Steel targets

We are thinking about 3/8" AR500 man silhouette targets for our Ladies to practice on. How close to the firing line can you put those steel targets without fear of bounce back? Would be using 22rf, 38 and 9mm fmj. No magnums or rifle rounds.

We put our steel "man" targets at least 25' from the firing line, but the most important factor is to angle them down to deflect bullets into the dirt instead of straight back. Some brands are actually made to accommodate this, and are manufactured accordingly.



Another alternative is to use "swingers" to mitigate bounce-back, but even this is not 100% effective. All the more reason to require safety glasses on a regular basis.



One thing for sure, working with reactive steel targets is much more rewarding than just punching holes in paper, and usually increases enthusiasm and the "fun factor" for those range trips.

You can also configure the swingers to point down, which will help. Nothing is absolute, tho'.....

I have several Hangfast targets and really like them. Targets hang on angle so bullets are deflected down. Easy setup and ring pretty good. I could set them up to 450 yds on our property
