Status of the plant in Austrailia that produced Universal Clays

Anyone have any current info after the fire? I may need to make a powder change for my 40 S & W loads.

Hodgdon "Clays" Powder is made here under the name ADI AS30N. Don't know where the "Universal" bit comes into it.

Here is the news from ADI on the fire at their "Flake" production facility. No mention of AS30N but it was probably manufactured in the same facility if it is a flake type powder.

There are 2 different Hodgdon powders Clays & Universal Clays. Clays looks to be faster like Red Dot or 700X.

From the MSDS Sheets I see that the three "Clays" Powders including Universal ADI AP70N are all manufactured here at the Thales ADI factory at Mulwala NSW Flake Factory so would all be affected.

As it says, production is expected back by later this year.

There are plenty of Aussies trying to get AP70N.

As has happened in the past, the bulk shipments will probably go to Hodgdon before we look like getting local supplies.

Thanks for the info. I can probably get thru this year but really didn't want to switch to something else unless absolutely necessary. Universal just works too good.

Whoo, thanks for that link!

Now it's clear the IMR 8208XBR we get up here in the states is ADI'S Benchmark 8208 relabeled! Had a hunch this was the case but never could get it confirmed.

That is correct and you lucky buggers in the USA had our own ADI Benchmark 8208 years before ADI released it to the local market. Something to do with a deal with Hodgdon I am led to believe.

So, just to confirm.... All the Hodgdon Powders listed as "Clays" and "Hodgdon Extreme" are manufactured here in Australia by Thales ADI. The Extreme Powders I believe may have been named that because they are all "Single Base Powders" and very temperature stable compared to most others.

Don't go picking a fight with us Aussies or we'll cut off your powder supply ..... ;) ;) ;D ;D ;) ;)

We do have Benchmark 1 and Trail Boss that I don't think is available in the USA. Your Benchmark is called Benchmark 2 here. Our packaging is 500 grams and 4kg. Don't complain too much as we have huge transport problems within Oz since the main Dangerous Goods transport company was closed down due to legal issues.

Overall we pay more for our own powder than you do overseas.

Too right, mate! I think it was 2008 the 8208XBR we know & love was made available here. I bought some early on to try for Palma, didn't get around to testing it for that until '09. Good stuff!

Rumors fly here it's not you folks as much as the NZ authorities & numerous restrictions + protocols that they've effected? Economics dictates ships transporting stuff up topside stop there first it seems?

So they get to intercede by demanding only ONE container holding propellant on a ship, ONE specific - wooden, it's said - pier said ship can tie up to, ONE propellant-carrying ship in that port at a time, ship when docked MUST be attended by armed guards 24/7....

Significant funnel-effect if true.
