Starting loads for 6.5 Creedmoor with Reloader 17

Hi everyone, I need some help in determining a starting load for my Tubb gun with a 28" Schnieder barrel using Hornady cases, large wolf primers, 140 gn. A-max bullets. I have a pound of Reloader 17 and would like to work up an accurate 6oo yard load for this cartridge. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I have finally gotten ahold of 7 pounds of the stuff but have yet to have a chance to try it out. Going to try it in the 6XC first, then the 6.5Creedmoor. Having seen German's data, and knowing what I load in both the XC and the Creedmoor with various like powders, I would guess something in the range of what you are running for H4350, if you run it. In my T2k in 6.5 Creedmoor,Wilson bbl), I would be running about 37 low end, to about 40 or a little more for maxed out. I am figuring I am going to start out around 37 and work up. My hope is to see 2900+ fps with a 140 class bullet without leaking primers, which is what you get with the Hornady brass when you go over the limit. No piercing, either leaks or the primers get popped out.

If you beat me to the test, let me know what you find out.

Thanks Mudcat.
I have been using 41gns. of H4350 in my 6.5 Creedmoor with good results. The primer pockets on the Hornady brass seem to loosen up slightly with this load but after 6 reloads,41gns. H4350) I haven't experienced any leaky or popped out or pierced primers. Any hotter and I think I would. I will start at 37gns. Re 17 and work up from there. I will load some up this weekend and shot them next week. Will let you know the results.
Thanks for your response John!

Tack, I'll be watching. What weight bullets are you pushing with 41g of H4350? I have given up on Hornady brass and went to forming Lapua. My "magic" load is 40.9g 4350 with 130 vld's. Hornady brass can't handle it very well.

If the case capacity is the same as the 260 couldn't we start about 5-10% below the 260 max. Alliant web site shows the 260 with a 140gr bullet with a max charge of 41.0 gr of RL17. I am going to start at 39gr on my gun when it gets here tomorrow. I'll post the data as I work the load up.

Also if you go to the "6.5 and bigger" forum and look at the 6.5x47 data that the guys are posting they are hitting a max load of about 41.5gr at 2950fps. The 6.5x47 is very close to a 6.5CM. The 6.5x47 has less case capacity and is about 2mm shorter with more case taper. In theory we should get a little more speed than the 6.5x47 and little more speed than the 260 due to a more efficient burn.

My testing has shown me that the creedmoor data is very close to the 6.5 x 47. 260 is a different animal.

Ti, my "magic" load is 41gns. H4350, wolf primers, using 140gn.
A-max bullets seated to the lands, with Hornady brass. This load yields ~2800fps with 28" barrel. Hoping to get 2900fps with Re17.
