Started .284 with VIHTA and AMAX bullet

Hello everybody,

I live in France or there is a possibility of having 2 manufacturing of different powder, the VECTAN and the VIHTA.
I wish for connaitre your experience(experiment) of recipe(takings) for the following components:
Bullets HORNADY .162 gr AMAX
Powder VIHTA N160. N165. N550. N560
Primes CCI BR2

What would be the best powder?

My rifle is a CG inch with ARCHER barrel of 30 " and at present I use with good result N 160 with te 175 gr MK of SIERRA.

I have used N160, N165 and N560 in a 284 Shehane with both 162 A-Max bullets and 180 Grain bullets. If N160 works with the 175MK, you should try it with the 162 A-Max. It should perform well. I suggest that you also test N165. It has given me some of my best results. It is also an unusually cool burning powder which is known to give longer barrel life. N550 and N560 are also excellent powders and either should give you substantially higher muzzle velocities but at the expense of shorter barrel life since the are much hotter burning powders.

Thé N560 please me but i'm afraid for thé barrel because on France thé barrel price is very expensive

What would be the best choice of bullet for the .284 at 1000 yard ,my barrel is on 1/8.5 on 30 "?
SIERRA MK 175gr or 168 gr?
HORNADY .162 gr AMAX or BTHP ?

I don't used the BERGER bullet because in france she are very expensive
for exemple BERGER 168 gr VLD .284 91$/100 or 340 $/500

175 Serra is the way to go, I like vit 560.
if you are using it for f.class at 1000 yds you will need .5 or less groups & low e.s. if you get that with vit160 stick with it, 162 a max will need good wind reading skills !!!
