Standard Vs Regular Velocity

Hi all

I have a CMMG ar 15 22LR conversion kit and a AA glock 17 22LR conversion. My CMMG has eaten pretty much any ammo I use, but the AA is very picky and only cycles with mini mag CCI.

My question is this, if I were to get a dedicated 22LR pistol or rifle is the only safe bet to get bolt action to use any ammo? I have a ton of CCI standard velocity and federal bulk. I just fear investing in a cool gun and then not working

Maybe so. I've not had a lot of semi-autos, but they all ran with CCI standard velocity: Smith 41, 3 Brownings, several 10-22s, a Kidd, a CMMG and another dedicated AR, and one I can't remember.
Maybe there is a recoil/action spring you can lighten to run the standard velocities.

Most of the semi-auto pistols I have owned have not run well with standard velocity, the only semi-auto rifles I owned are Ruger 10/22's and they all ran fine with any ammo whether standard or high-velocity.

IMO your Glock 22 should operate with any high-velocity ammo not just CCI Mini-Mag, perhaps give Glock customer service a call, to me that sounds more like a pistol issue rather than an ammo issue.

You could use only high-velocity in the Glock and use your standard velocity in the conversion kit. Or use this as an excuse to buy a bolt action rifle which will operate with any ammo since ejection is a manually operated function as is more likely to work without issues.

I have an early AA conversion for a Glock 17.
It runs best on mini-mags.
It doesn’t like a limp wrist.
Don’t try ThunderBolts.

Even bolts aren't certain. My savage mkII doesn't like to extract cci std. Works great with center-x

As a former Gun Smith, I can say that, "USUALLY", "most" .22's Semi's, can be made to Fire, what ever ammo you want,.. IF, you polish ( and possibly lighten ? ) the Bolt, the Action insides and or, the recoil Spring, to fire the standards. Polishing the Chamber "smooth" (carefully), also helps ! My 10/22 Ruger with a New Green Mtn barrel (Bentz match Chambered),.. "digests" everything from, 1,040 FPS Stand Vel. to Winchesters New Ammo at, 1,435 FPS ! Might cost you, a small bit to do this, as it took me an Hour and a half + to, Polish the Bolt, Hammer surfaces, inside of action, polish chamber and Clean all, thoroughly ! I kept and used, the Factory Bolt and recoil Spring ( cutting the spring was NOT, necessary ) It's a Sage Rat killing Machine with, ANY ammo, I have !
