I was looking into buying a after market barrel for my Savage. But I need to know what shank I have. And I'm not sure what the shank is. I have a Savage 12 LRPV duel port in 204 ruger. Does any one know what my shank is?
The shank is the threaded part of the barrel that screws into the action. Measure the shank with a pair of calipers if it measures 1.050 or in that neighborhood it is a small shank. If it measures 1.112 or in that neighborhood it is a large shank. I think most Savage stuff is small shank except for the target action and some of the actions that were chambered in magnum chamberings, but I'm not sure on that so don't order a barrel just off of this post.
The LRPV use a Target Action. All Target Actions are Large shank. I wish there were not but they are. I have a bunch of small shank barrels I would love to use with my Target Actions. tim
