Stainless Pin Media

I have been following this topic with great interest. Ultra-sonic and the Thumler liquid assist methods are typical. The Lemi-Shine (from Publix) additive is the key component as far as Im concerned.

Providing you have a "bowl" that will tolerate this next version, lets consider the old "vibratory" method. Its truly going to be noisy. Also, considering that there is "0" liquid to "cushion" the "impact" Im wondering if the brass would be rendered useless or if alot less time would be required?

I believe the bowl might be replaced more often than what is typical. My entire unit is replaced (motor craps out) without ever needing a bowl replacement. Now, I do have spare bowls. I would like to know if anyone has tried this? The media is $50 for this experiment. (my point I guess)

This is the dry version, just stainless media and your brass.

With a vibratory cleaner ALL the SS pins will end up at the bottom of the cleaner and will not do a bit of good....
Same way with a round tumbler, it will not do the job as it just rolls around and lets the media slip down the sides instead of falling with the brass....
A multiple sided container is the best (think Thumblers model B)......
I have no problem at all using Citronox in place of Lemi-shine.. and you don't even need to use that or dish soap, it just helps it do the job quicker is all there is to that...

I just got 5 lb of the stainless pin media. FYI - 5 lb of STM is about 1/2 liter (or 1/2 quart, if you prefer) in volume. I dont know how full you need to fill your tumbling device, but you may need more than 5 lbs.

I notice, by way of comparison, that my vibratory tumbler holds about 2.5 liters of walnut shells. Not that this is entirely relevant since the STM is not supposed to work in vibratory tumblers.
