St Thomas Saturday Groundhog Shoot May 8, 2021

Dimwit Flathead

It's the Juggernaut, Bitch!
The St. Thomas Sportsman's Club Groundhog Shoot May 8 Match will proceed at 09:00 this Saturday at the Thurman Finniff Memorial Rifle Range. Matches are open to all responsible shooters young and old. The registration fee is $15 per rifle. We have added a Factory Precision Rifle class this year with changes to the course of fire from last year. We also have an AR class for those who would like to compete with other black rifle shooters. It is, of course, fun and easy!!! Get you favorite piece out and come enjoy a fun and educational Saturday morning with other shooters. There are cash payouts in each division.

The Rules are here:
Directions: NOTE: Campbell Run Road is temporarily closed. Please follow the detour signs.

The staff and management hopes to see you on Saturday. Thank you!

Can't make it this weekend but want to get up to watch and learn the ropes, so to speak. My grandfather got me into competition shooting at a young age. I however am new to Benchrest shooting. The plan was for him and I to shoot and reload together and him share his wealth of knowledge with me this year. Unfortunately, he recently passed away. So I'm on my own without my best friend and mentor but he'd want me to stay the course

I'm very sorry for your loss.. Gilbert was an outstanding man and just a great human being! That is a loss to the whole community as well. Everyone in Edenville knew who Gilbert was ; ) I met him at Edenville's very own gunsmith (Paul Shover) in the early 2000's. Man the stories those fellas would tell! Especially if they had a few beers in them!!!! HA HA HA He talked me into the 6br about 15 years ago. Gave me a few pointers along the way as well. He sure will be missed. That generation of guys will never be replaced. They don't make'em like that anymore...

I'd like to add that in my personal experience, Almost everyone in the shooting community will stop what they are doing to show you the ropes and answer all and I mean all your questions. My suggestion is: to go up the St. Thomas this weekend and talk to the guys/ gals up there. There is so much to learn that I recommend everyone should go to a few matches before they start buying things. I haven't been to a groundhog match in a few years but that is a great group of people to help you out. Don't let this setback stop you from learning. He would've wanted nothing less.

Dan,

Thank you for your kind words, it means a lot. I appreciate it... I believe he referred to Mr Shover as "The Gun Doctor". Yeah those personalities will never be replaced might even be illegal in some parts of the country.

I do intend to pursue it. There's a lot to learn especially the reloading aspect but I'll get it.. Wished we could have done it together but it would make him happy that I followed his footsteps.

Thank you again
Kevin
