I have read many opinions here regarding SSS and "customer service". Many are not flattering. Is this only for gunsmith work? I would like to order a stock for a PTA Savage and am hoping that they are okay to deal with for that. Thanks.

Look for a used one. You'll probably find one before you get the new one from Fred.I have read many opinions here regarding SSS and "customer service". Many are not flattering. I'm nice with everyone I do business with. I always give all businesses the benefit of doubt. I heard all these bad things yet I still went forward ordering. At first, and I did alot of business with Fred and Lisa for years. Bought stocks, barrels, triggers, bolt bodies, parts and tools all spread over several years. At first all things were perfect. After a few years, orders were getting to me slower than promised. Charges were hitting my CC way before I got my order( like 6+ months). Then I called, emailed asking about the parts, items etc with only to get excuses. I continued to order as they ARE Savage specialists and not many of them around. Finally after never receiving an order and no response in return to my calls, messages and emails, I just quit. Gave up. Are they great people ? Yes. Are the nice people ? Yes. Is Fred an excellent Savage guy and gunsmith ? Yes. Those are undisputed. What they are not are good business people today as they once were. If I cannot trust people to take my money and return me with promised services in a reasonable time, i can go elsewhere. Reasonable time to me is when they say I will get it. I never ask because I know gunsmiths are not fast and good at the same time. I never need a rifle the same year I start building one. When I'm given a date of say 60 days to get a part and don't see it for 180 days and never get return emails or responses, I'm pretty much told FU by that business. They don't need my business.Well, I, for one, will continue to do business with SSS. Have I had to wait a long time in some cases, yes. Have I had a hard time contacting Lisa, not very often. Have I ever tried a SSS stock, yes, two of them. Both my heavy and light bench rest guns are SSS and not only was the price right, they went together beautifully. Will I use them for gunsmithing again, you bet your sweet a-s!
SSS is my go to smith. I have used a couple local gunsmiths but the quality and price is way better with SSS.
Maybe some of you should try being nice to Lisa! I have found her very nice to do business with.
