(SSK-50) Don't You Love It When FedEx & UPS Both Show Up

Fedex arrived around lunch today. Had my 6mm BullBerry IMP Barrel, with an APA Gen 3 Little Ba$tard brake attached (thanks to Troy at BullBerry). A quick look at the computer informed me that UPS had just visited my FFL. Two SSK-50 Faltside frames were in my hands about an hour later. My next stop was my loading shop workbench, where I took the first SSK-50 Frame apart. Twenty minutes later a polished smooth trigger was finished. Lock up was crisp and solid. Frame opened easily. Next scope and grip set a were installed. Hopefully range time soon.

Just shot about 40 (6mm BB IMP) shots fireforming brass. Didn't get the rest out just wanted to see how brake and frame worked together. Was shooting off block of wood with folded towel. Easily stayed under 1.5 inches at 100 yards. Brake virtually eliminated recoil. Frame locked up smooth and solid. Had that click you love to hear/feel on lockup. Opened very easy and functioned flawless. It will NOT be my only SSK-50. I loved both new SSK-50 Frame and My APA Little Ba$tard Brake. My 6.5mm BullBerry IMP barrel will soon be headed to Troy at BB Legacy. Super nice Guy and does Top Notch Work. I could not be more Satisfied. Will get some target picture soon.

What brass is used on startup of the 6mm BB IMP? Good looking outfit there! The wood reminds me of Georgia Jim.

6mm BB IMP is made with 30/30 brass shortened to 1.900, necked down to 6mm and shoulder blown out to 40 degrees. Wood is Georgia Jim. One of several sets he made for me over the years.

Top two are 6mm BB IMP Bottom two are 6.5 MM BB IMP. 6.5 BB IMP is probably going to Troy at Bullberry to be threaded Next.

I have to say Tred— That is cool- what is the advantage to that frame over a std contender frame?

It is supposed to be as strong as a G-2 but with the trigger of original Contender (A winning combination IMHO). Not sure, but it is nice to have a source for new frames.

I’m in line for two of those actions, there is a sizable wait. Sounds like your happy and I know you have other TC actions to compare them to, neat! It’ll be awhile before I get mine. What do you like about the BB improved cartridge, the rim I would guess, what else?

Enjoy!

I was very pleased with the frames. Looks like it was worth the wait. Rim is a big plus. Brass easy to find. Gives max performance in a Contender. Always had good results in BullBerry barrels. Only ones I like better are OTT.

I’m new to the whole contender scene. I haven’t heard of OTT barrels. I have a SSK 222 barrel I like a lot, I also have a BB 22 squirrel barrel I haven’t shot yet but I do have the brass and dies, just need to get it set up. I’ll look for OTT barrels.

A little range time. 6mm BullBerry Improved Top target fireforming 55 grain 2650 FPS 100 yards. Bottom two 70 grain 2700 FPS also 100 yards. Has potential.

Very nice.

I am waiting for two of the frames.

One will be 22 Hornet.

The other is TBD although likely 6 or 6.5 BR.
