Squirrels VS Prairie Dogs

I think setting up in a Alfalfa field and shooting squirrels is tougher or great practice for MT Prairie Dogs. Smaller and quicker to move rather than pose like a PD. Plus 200 yard shots my scope even at 60 degree temps pick up the heat waves,is the only thing you can do for that is turn your scopes down ? I have a great glass also .

That is mirage...about all you can do it reduce power...some scopes are better than others...but nothing eliminates it.

The common way to solve that problem is having 2-3 guns so at least one can be cooling down while one other is in service.

Our local PD's tend to run at the first shot so I haven't needed to worry about barrel heat in years, basically since both drought and plague diminished numbers.

Try a PCP air rifle, pretty darn hard to get those barrels hot, lol.

I completely misunderstood your question...I thought you were seeing mirage from the conditions not barrel mirage. As the guys said above, barrel mirage can be solved with a shield. There is a guy who sells them here in the for sale section. I've not used one but he's received a lot of great reviews.

Sorry about that.

Well i think or thought I was seeing them from Field conditions .. I found and ordered from a supplier of these shields for $4. bucks . So I'll try them out once they arrive .

Can go to Home Depot and buy a cheap 2" wide slat venetian blind for $10.00 and you will have enough to give to all your buddies and a lifetime supply for yourself. Get some Velcro strips to attach to barrel.
