Squirrels chewing on my house no more...

That vid is too funny. I personally prefer a decent PCP airgun for urban work. A benjamin maruader in any caliber would be the ticket.

Today I just finished testing ammo in my new ruger 10/22 that comes with threaded barrel and a flashider. I asked the store to remove and throw out the flash hider and threw a burris red dot and my cascade suppressor on the end of it. Shoots quieter than a pellet rifle even in between the houses in the neighborhood.

Squirrels -76 now. Seeing fewer these days.
When I walk out side or drive in my driveway they run for cover.

I hope they were all "humanely" dispatched. ;D

Last fall I finally declared war on squirrels after seeing one of two bird feeders on the ground, again! and a squirrel hanging from the second feeder with two of his friends on the ground.

I have a very old Remington single shot bolt action I received when I was 9 and somehow managed to keep. I replaced the trigger spring and gave it a good cleaning. It still has the weaver scope I purchased for it years ago. The little rifle could not be more accurate.

After two months I stopped counting. The crazy thing is the procession never seems to stop. If I let up for a week or so, they are back at the feeders, and I thought rabbits multiplied fast.

Nat: If it's possible to post a picture of the bushing you installed on the trigger pin, it would be appreciated.

Squirrels now at -90. The last few squirrels must have moved in from surrounding areas and not communicated with some that had near misses with me. The later squirrels seem oblivious to my intentions and invited themselves to be removed from the area. The earlier squirrels were either inteligent or had great instincts. The latter have been real dumb.

I can say I have really enjoyed my CZ 455 with a 3 X 9 Leupold. The Federal 36 grain hollow points have served me well.

We need a good place for recipes, esp with all these squirrels. My late mother-in-law used to make a great stew out of all the ones that Pap and I could shoot.Anybody else think this is worth a separate column,I'll put in my venison tenderloin (finest meat GOD gave us) recipe.

One morning last winter when I had been throwing out sunflower seeds & corn for the birds, I counted nineteen squirrels in my small wooded backyard. When I cracked the sliding glass door it looked like the ground came alive. There may have been more. It reminded me of the movie The Birds, kind of scary. If they decided to attack en masse, it could have been ugly. :D Unfortunately, rimfires are verboten in my hunting zone and shotguns would invite busybodies. I just hope they aren't the zombies of the ones I've killed in previous years. :)

Nat-

Hold onto those squirrel skins, especially the tails. Fly tyiers use the skins & tails for tying flies. A typical fly shop charges about $5 for a squirrel tail. Skin the squirrel, soak in a saltwater brine, and let dry.

Many years ago my retired dad and his elderly neighbor were bored with life and decided the neighborhood needed a few less squirrels. They bought a live trap and made a cage out of chicken netting to store the captured squirrels in. When they put a squirrel in the cage they would wear all the hair off from around their nose from trying to squeeze through the hole. After they had caught some squirrels, all branded with hairless rings around the nose, they took them 2 miles out of town and turned them loose in a little grove of trees. They came back to town and within 4 hours had a squirrel in their trap. It had no hair around its nose. These squirrels either had to swim a small river or find a bridge to cross in order to get back into the "hood"!!! The two old farts retired from trapping.

As of 6/15/13 Squirells -139. This is since the second week of August 2012.
Where did they all come from? Now when I drive in my driveway if there s a squirel in my yard it is either oblivious to my being there or they run like hell.

Have a neighbor that loves feeding stuff. The stuff dont stay at her place but come and reat my raspberries. I have helped reduce the pop a couple summers ago. Have much fewer now than 2 yrs ago.

Cats are now a problem. They like to deposit stuff around my house. If I wanted one, Id have one.
