spotting scope

I took the advice of two of our members and searched for an older Nikon, to use for short range BR.
I was looking to replace what I had, Celestron and found a 30x 60mm older Nikon with ED glass and all I can say is what a difference. I was looking at 6mm holes at 200 and it was like I could reach out and touch them.
I found it on Ebay from a Japanize seller and it was at my door in 5 days.
If you need or just want a good spotter do some searching for an older model Nikon you will not be sorry.

I've been using my 60 power Nikon for some time now.
I had no problem with 6.5 hits at 650. .223's from the AR's
were getting sketchy if they were not shot on white paper.
On card board it was tough. Note that it has to be a darn
near perfect day. Does'nt matter what scope your using
when using high power and the Mirage kicks in......

I bought a Nikon 80mm spotter and a bunch of eyepieces from the widow of a fellow shooter years ago. It was really difficult to focus...like the lube had dried up. I sent it back to Nikon after contacting them and a month later the shipped me a BRAND NEW scope to replace the one I sent in. Their warranty service, at that time, was just superlative. I hope it hasn't changed. I've had no issues with the scope since.

What parameters did you use to search for an older Nikon with the ED glass, looking at it - what features are different and distinguish it from the newer, less desirable units the are readily available in abundance?

Thanks!

Read this through it may answer some of your questions.

I have a Nikon 80 at 20-60 zoom and have a hard time seeing at 300, are there eyepieces I can get to increase the zoom maybe, or should I just get new eyes.

After a bit more research, I don't believe this is my best option. I am more interested in a spotter for reading mirage than I am for seeing bullet holes. I have a mile target cam for that covers that.

Thanks @rjtfroggy for the link, which pointed me in a better direction than I was thinking I needed to go.
