Spotting scope for smallbore distance.

I second the Longshot camera system. It's an investment at $849, but, man, it works! It has made my range time so much more enjoyable. It's leagues beyond any spotting scope I've ever used.

I tried the cheaper camera systems, but I had problems with dropped signals (camera to receiver). No dropped signals with the Longshot. You see your hits in high definition. You don't have camera shake (like with some spotting scopes). You don't have to stop what you're doing or even move from your position to see your hits, because it shows up right on your iPad (I use the iPad). You can see it out of the corner of your eye if you have your iPad set up correctly for peaks at it.

It's a really nice set up at a fair price. With a great warranty. They have a new line called the Ranger coming out this summer. It's up for pre-order now. I think, if I recall correctly, it goes out to 300 yards. And it's selling for--again, if I remember correctly--something like $199.

I tried a camera system (Bullseye, I believe). I sent it back… it was an awesome idea, however the software sucked AND I found it nearly impossible to see holes in the black of a SR target. On white paper it was fine.
I’d verify that you can see .22 holes in the black before buying something.

I went with a Kowa TSN663 instead… it works very well at 100 yards. At 200 it depends on the light and mirage. Distance is where the camera systems shine. Mirage and distance is irrelevant (as long as it can connect). Again, verify that the camera can resolve enough detail to see shots in the black would be my only advice.

The Long Shot Marksman is a nice system. I’ve been using one for 6 years. Seeing .22 holes on a black target section is not guaranteed.

The Bullseye SME was one of the systems I tried, too, before finally just getting the Longshot. I really liked the software, and I thought the picture quality was pretty darn good. But the camera and receiver wouldn't communicate very well. The signal kept dropping, even with perfect LoS. It was super frustrating. Would've been a great system imo if the signal hadn't kept going in and out, or just dropping permanently.

And you can't get anyone at SME if you call. That was maybe the worst. I called Longshot, and a human answered the phone. And they were super friendly and helpful. I'll spend $800 on a system that's dependable and has great people backing the warranty and service. I hope Longshot doesn't go the way of Vortex. That would make me super sad.

Also, I loved that the Longshot system came with a hardcase, two chargers, and two tripods at no extra cost. And good tripods. Not like Caldwell's.... :)
