Sporter Barrel Selection

I will ty to keep this short. Was given a very nice Mark V stock and intend to use my long action Howa and a new sporter barrel for the build. The stock measures .730 at the tip channel and an old Howa barrel I had on hand measures .7295 and fits but is snug. I have viewed the barrel profiles and #1 and maybe #2 may fit. I would really prefer the #2 but do not want to enlarge the channel or fore end very much, if any. From breech face to fore end is 12". What is the barrel diameter 12'' from breech face for a #1 or #2 barrel? This ended up longer than I had expected, need help. Using Preferred barrel and X-Caliber barrel drawings.

You can use their dimensions to calculate taper per inch and determine diameter at a given point on the barrel.

Using the Preferred #1 as an example.

.850(diameter 6" from breech end) - .630(diameter 26" from breech end) = .220

.220 / 20 = .011 (taper per inch 6" from breech to muzzle)

6 x .011 = .066 (diameter change from 6" to 12")

.850 - .066 = .784(diameter at 12")

KRP, Thank you for getting back to me. I used your calculation method and achieved the same results. Using this as a guide, I may still need to do a bit of relief work in the channel to free float. Or maybe not to free float.
