There is a Sportco target rifle in .308 for sale locally. Comes with aperture sights. The asking price is $650. Can anyone give me some info on this make of rifle, it looks like a nice target rig. It has been rebarreld and looks nearly mint. I have dealt with the seller before and he is trustworthy. Is this a good deal?

Not the same beast. You are probably talking about the M44 which is a three lug ss action which locks into the barrel, which means to install a conventional barrel you need to buy or make an adapter.

These rifles are very common in Australia. You can buy one with sights as issued ie.original barrel and stock for about $150 aussie.If they have an adaptor and a custom stock they are worth a bit more, up to about $600 aussie.Lots still in use but custom actions are the choice for new rifles, RPA Barnard etc.
