I know this isn't exactly the shotgun/grouser's forum and I will likely regret this later in life. But, I'm thinning the herd and this shotgun doesn't quite fit me. I know some of you Northeasterners and Midwesterners will know what this is and probably someone who wants one. A fantastic, hard to find, quick handling grouse gun at only 5.8 lbs!
-Selling my Ithaca SKB 280E 20ga "Quail Special" choked IC/IC with 25" barrels
-Straight grip English style stock, beavertail forearm, with auto-ejectors, 3" chambers, tang safety and trigger-mounted barrel selector. Comes with original orange fiber-optic front bead. The straight grip 280 was added in 1971 and the IC/IC boring was available in 1973. Ithaca stopped production in 1977. So this one falls between 1973-1977.
Metal: Game scene scroll engraving on receiver - grouse on right side, quail on left; scrollwork on boarders, frame, and forearm iron. Soldering on solid rib is perfect. Light fading in blueing on lower pistol tang, safety (as expected), and just a tad on the receiver itself. Barrels are bright and shiny, chambers are rust-free. I rate between 90-95%.
Wood: Checkering is about perfect, minor handling marks but nothing breaking the finish. I think 1 minor splinter (~2 mm) around the tang. Were there when I got it (10 years ago) and have not changed since. I shoot light loads for grouse, woodcock, and quail. Original butt-pad is intact and not cracked, length has not been altered from factory. I rate between 95-98%.
Dimensions according to Ithaca in the 1976 Field Catalog
LOP: 14"
Cast: neutral
DAC: 1 1/2"
DAH: 2 5/8"
$1,800 - buyer pays shipping (from zip code 74074)
