Speer 55gr Gold Dot Bonded .224 bullet

Anyone ever use this bullet on critters, and how did it perform? Barlow

Don't know about the "Gold Dot" name, but I've been shooting white tails with their Bonded Bearclaw 55gr for 10 years or so. When that bullet was discontinued I found several boxes at Wideners and bought them all. I have enough to last me the rest of my life. I've killed nearly 40 with that bullet and never had one to go more than 3', straight down.

Guy here had an apple orchard. He had a depredation permit for deer. He killed 12+ deer a year in a old sako 22/250 with the Bear claws, and I would not expect the "bonded" do do any less.

I am going to buy some 55g to try in my 223 AI on hogs, and 62g in my 22-243 AI.

I don't know why a guy would need a bonded bullet for coyotes.

I was going to try them in My Swift for Deer. Years ago I had a box of Trophy Bonded (actually ordered from Jack Carter himself) but they have not been available as component bullets for years. I have killed Deer with my Swift and various bullets since 1976, and as always some were better than others. I started with the 50gr Speer, and it never failed. Maybe I should just go back to them. According to Mr. Ackley, a .220 Swift loaded with controlled expansion bullets is a deer-killing machine.

I tend to agree with his opinions.
