Speedy Gonzales Barrel

I have a customer who picked up a Rem 700 at an estate sale. It has a Speedy Gonzales marked barrel chambered in 30 x 45. The gun was tagged at the sale as being a 308, which is what the customer wants as he just needs it for deer hunting. Is there a demand for this barrel or should I just rechamber it to 308 for him? I can pick up a factory take-off barrel for around one Benjamin.

So is this on a 556x45 case?
I painted a stock for a fella shooting a
30x47 lapua. I gotta tell ya it's a hammer!
Probably make a great deer round out to
4-500 yards.

Gonna have to disagree with you on that one, Brett.

As per customer that's how far he shoots it in competition.
Deer being thin skinned and all.

My thought is if Speedy still liked the performance of this barrel, he would still be shooting it.

Quite possible that it’s a slow twist barrel, perhaps as slow as 17twt. You may want to determine twist rate before rechambering.

No were stated it belonged to speedy he barreled it. A customer of Mr. Ryan bought it at an estate sale and wants it rechambered.....

30×45-If it is like a blackout cartridge then it has a 223 boltface / not a 308 boltface. Easy to look at and see..

I wouldn't hesitate, I would buy another barrel.
