Speedlock firing pin

I'll second Dusty's reply.

OEM Rem firing pin tips are .075".....give or take a few thousandths.

The current trend is for a .062" tip diameter that will require the breech face to be bushed.

I had one fitted to my Remington 204 when I bought it.
I do get primer cratering with my loads and was wondering if the pin diameter was smaller than the original. I will have to see if I can strip it and measure it.
Would a oversize pin from ptg or Holland cure the problem ?

Only if the diameter is the actual issue. It's true that many Remington pins end up kinda like a hotdog in a hallway, but bolt faces can also get pitted from guys blowing primers, there can be an annular ring that is indented around the firing pin hole (COMMON on factory), the pin can be the wrong diameter, etc.

The loads can also be the issue.

A larger pin may solve it, but you will have to either machine it, or have it machined, to the correct diameter for your bolt. When it's too large to fit, that's easy to tell, but if it is an interference fit, you'll get terrible accuracy and ignition issues, and the cause is not always readily apparent.

There HAS to be clearance. Just not a lot.

Maybe, maybe not...it didn't cure mine. Check to see if the firing pin hole in the bolt is "chamfered". Mine sure was and until I bushed it the primers were cratered and the bolt opened with a noticeable click. I don't know why anyone would chamfer or bevel the firing pin hole on any bolt, but this one was so well done, so precisely machined that it had to be intentional. I went down in the diameter size of my firing pin tip. I really don't think you want to go up. In my case I couldn't. I would have had to bore it out quite a lot to get rid of the ridiculous bevel.
There is another reason the bushing is a good way to go. You can install a bushing such that the firing pin is held captive thru its entire stroke.

Edit: I did a thread on bushing the bolt, I think it was about a year or so ago. Photo bucket took the pictures down, but I can repost them here if you want.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I don't think il bother with the oversize pin and just go ahead and get it bushed
