spec. me out my new barrel, rifle)

i am a barrel nut addict, so the action is gonna be savage, barrel will probably come from sinman's brux offerings, but that is not a given.

my goal is primarily 100-300yd bench bragging rights type gun, just looking to punch paper and walk away smiling. i would like it to be 1000yd capable, but have no such range readily available, so i am not gonna do a 1000yd load, just a good 300yd load.

my hang up is this will be my first real venture beyond military chamberings, got a 22-250 too), and i am a real stick in the mud on figuring out what i want to do. i don't want to do a wildcat, so i am planning on straight up 6br.

i have read and re-read most of the articles and think i know what i want but would like to here from others. also load input is welcome, powder will probably be varget, i will probably do a varget/smk load found here and fine tune it and never try more than 2 or 3 different bullets.

Sounds like a 6BR 0.272' on turn neck chamber. 8 tw barrel. Try something like a 95gr Bib's, maybe a 80 gr Berger for short range. I think a flat base bullet is more accuracy at short range. 105 begrer for long range. Varger and RL15 powder.

If you would go for a wildcat, the 6BRX or 6 Dasher would be the way to go. They would give you a little extra for 1000 yds.

'Bench bragging rights' and 'barrel nuts' are seldom used in the same sentence.

for short range BR, the 6ppc is unbeatable in my mind.

Beyond, the 6BR in the hands of a competent shooter is hard to beat.

I have watched 6BR users for three years in F Class practise and competitions on the Canadian Army ranges. They struggle at 1000 yards on a windy day, not enough horsepower. They can have problems going subsonic at 1000 yards if not careful.

But it is a beautiful 300 yard cartridge. A 6BR F Classer from Quebec has shot a perfect 600 in the Sierra 300 metre ISU match two years in a row at the Canadian Fullbore Champs in Ottawa. The ISU 10 ring is 10 cm,3.93 inches) in diameter at 300 metres,330 yds). This is a sling and aperture sight target but still tricky for F Class if there is a breeze.
