Speaking of primers...

Well, the primer crunch is here. Shame on me for not paying attention.

Ok, I have been using CCI #41 for my 6 and 6.5 CM loads.

Shooting 600 - 1000 yds.

I have my loads created but looks like when I run through the 1400 I have on hand I might need to change to another primer.

My question is I also have some CCI 450 SRP magnums.

Without loading and wasting these (when I need them) on load testing anyone have a idea on what the magnum primers would do to my FPS on my 6 and 6.5 CM loads?

If you have a chrono, you can back your load down 0.5gns and ladder back up until you hit the same speed you had before. There's a decent chance that when you hit the same speed, it will shoot just like the previous load. If you're tight on components/money/time, this is the fastest way to safely get moving. Tweaking seating depth can correct any sort of change in grouping you might see with the new primers at the same speed as the old load.

Lots of folks will just switch primers and not touch anything, but that can be risky if the new primers burn hotter. Up to you to decide what your risk tolerance is. If the load is already near max, I wouldn't risk a component change without backing it down first.

No I,m not maxed out on the loads.

6MM, 105 gr, 29XX FPS
6.5mmm, 140gr, 27XX FPS.

Was just wondering how much a difference they would be. I would expect them to increase my FPS but likely not that much to make it bad.

If I were still living up by Madison, I would set you up with more #41’s. I picked up a couple thousand at Recob’s 6 years ago, and never put them to use.

I shoot 450s exclusively in my 6.5x47 @ 2765 to 2780 range at 600 yds all the time...works great for me.
Its with a Berber 140 and 28 inch straight pipe....awesome.

CCI 550 Sm pistol magnum and the CCI 400 Sm.rifle are identical according to Speer/CCI Technical Services,,go from there.

If I remember correctly the 41s and the 450s have the same primer mix and cup thickness , the 41s have a different anvil angle . So they should work the same .
