Speaking of bedding material... Do we like JB Weld?

I have used it a lot, mostly because I'm in the sticks, and shipping is getting so bad(and I always seem to be short of bedding when I am short on time).
If you add some fiberglass floc or fumed silica for thickening, it really isn't that bad.
I have never used it on anything really vicious, recoil wise.
It works, but it sure isn't Pro-bed 2000.

It also doesn't do the Devcon thing, and turn into a brick before you have a chance to use it.

Got tired of throwing ever more expensive Devon away. I’ve used JB on a couple guns. One is a very light .300WM. Small sample size, but zero problems. I didn’t add anything to it. I did wait several minutes after mixing to begin applying it.

I used it on a handful of gray laminate wood guns when I was younger. It’s decent, but I can’t see myself ever getting away from Devcon and Pro Bed.

Do we like straight JB weld for bedding? It's cheap. It's at every hardware store. It's mixes easily. It's a lovely color of gray.
I strted with JB, it did a good job for the most part. When the exothermal reaction starts it gets a little runny.
Read the specs and used Devcon 10110 for a while, even refrigerated it goes bad in a year or so.

I have switched to MarineTex and will most likely stay with it. It has incredible shear strength and the lowest shrinkage. It is a dream to apply, its just the right consistency when mixed by weight. I've had this batch for about three years and its still usable. Its color is close to JB.

I lost a few Devcon kits back in the day. Drove me nuts. Devcon bedding jobs shrink really bad after about a year as well. Not a fan.

Marine Tex is still the best in my opinion. Easiest to mix and apply, excellent flow when setting the receiver to avoid bubbles and cavities, has the least shrinkage, and phenomenal shelf life too.

I always use JB Weld for small bedding jobs on scope rings and receiver rails and it works great because it has a pretty good friction coefficient to add grip under recoil.

I tried a full JB Weld bedding job on one of my Rem 700 short action rifles and I will NEVER use it for that again! Just not consistent enough for large volume jobs.

You could maybe deep bed with Devcon or Marine Tex, then rough the surface and skim bed with JB Weld. Thats how they do glue-in stocks for BR rifles.

But i just like the one-and-done job i get with Marine Tex :)

JB Weld works perfectly fine. I typically add powdered steel to all my bedding compounds to improve compressive strength I don't like adding cabosil (fumed silica) to make it thixotropic because having it flow seems to help reduce voids. Ive been a Marintex fan the last several years though and it works fantastic. I can always get a 2oz kit for a new build if I want to make sure its fresh.

I have used JB Weld marine tax with relatively good results doesn’t come out as smooth as what I’ve been trying to achieve so I’m thinking about changing, but it functionality it has work fine

I like that you can buy Marine Tex in small amounts and its consistency .
Can get one time amounts on Amazon fresh--not too expensive
I like Marine Tex
It is very sensitive to mixture amounts so if you get the one use small quantity and mix it all at one time you get a perfect mix Amazon deserves to be rich I love em

JB is my friend in the shop but too runny for bedding to me

I use JB on occasion, but my favorite bedding material is still the original Acraglass. I add plenty of fibre to it and favor it over anything else. I also use it for glue-ins and stock repair. WH
