source for old card board box lapua 6br brass?

My 6 br was built last sept. and at the time I was unaware of the change to lapua brass and my rifle was cut with a .271 or .272 nk. The blue box brass I have is .267 loaded nk dia. When my smith called PTG to get a reamer and talk to Dave about what length freebore would be optimal for the 66-68gr bullets I planned to shoot in it, either Dave did not ask him about the brass I planned to use or my smith did not ask me. I did not know there was a difference so I guess the blame lies at my feet for my lack of knowledge. I use a redding nk sizer with a .265 bushing and was wondering, A) does the .267 loaded nk dia hurt that much in a .271-.272 chamber; and if it does B) where can I get some old cardboard box brass with the .269 nk dia? Or am I just up S&^% creek without a paddle? Rifle is a trued 700 w/ bartlein 1-13.5 HV contour. Glue in SS bottom in a bobby hart laminate, pillared and bedded from 1.5" in front of the recoil lug back to just infront of the trigger and at the tang. My smith filled in the mag cutout in the stock and bedded over it for extra bedding footprint. This is my first rifle that is bedded in front of the recoil lug is this normal? The remingtons and savages that I have bedded stop just in front of the recoil lug with the barrel completely floated under the chamber. Thanks for any help

I wouldn't worry about it.Shoot that barrel up and when it is time you can simply have Dave Kiff grind your reamer down to a smaller size.
I have been preaching about neck turning for years while everybody else was saying no turn necks were the way to go.Looks like history is on my side.
If you already have Blue Box brass and feel the extra clearance is going to be a problem swap it with somebody. That way your only out the shipping.

Adam, I presume that your rifle was built as a varmint rifle since you plan on using light bullets and have a slow twist barrel. I think you're going to find your barrel is capable of astounding accuracy if your load is correct. With the slight difference in the neck thickness of the brass, those ground hogs and prairie dogs will never notice the difference.

If you insist on a smaller neck diameter of your chamber, your smith could always cut some threads off your barrel and bump the chamber out at least the length of the neck and use a smaller reamer. I had that procedure done one time not too many years ago and that barrel would shoot the lights out.

Just a suggestion. Personally, I would use your present barrel until accuracy started to fall off and then rebarrel. Won't take more than 3,000 or 4,000 rounds to wear it out. But look at all the practice you'll get. Enjoy!!!

some varmint, but mostly some local rifle club BR matches and varmint rifle matches. No PPC's in my AO,but some 20brs and 20 dashers that shoot pretty tight. My 223 that was built by Geoff Corn would hold it s own against the coopers and other customs in 6 br and the aforementioned 20s most of the time. The other rifles were just as accurate, but the operators could not read the wind or mirage as good as me for the most part. Thanks for the heads up rain164845, still on the fence if it will really help me or not. Are the old brass that you have .013" nk?

It doesn't matter a bit! Just buy the blue box brass and get the correct bushings and go shoot some small groups!

adamj good for you.im also going to shoot the 6BR at some club level BR group shoots,i dont know how i will fair because my rifle is tired have around 1,300 round on it and the very little groups are getting hard to come buy,but it will still shoot .250's so im going to shoot a few matches this year just for fun and to gain some experience.Im in the process of building a new rifle, have a new haverkamp action, ordered two barrels(waiting on them) sent a chamber cast&dummy rounds off to have a new reamer made so its on its way, will order my stock next month,so hope i will be shooting a new 6BR bench rifle this time next year,i will post how the build goes and how it shoots. good luck to you,and if you can let me know how the neck clearance works out and how you fair at any matches.
Frank.

FJIM, tried some reloader 10x today, 3 rd groups of 29.0,29.5,30.0, and 30.5 under 66 barts and 68 bergers. Gotta say I like this powder so far, 29.5 and 30.5 were real good w/ the barts, 3 shots in the mid-low .1s. All from the prone, from a bench is my achilles still need to work on my consistency. Will try some cci 450s,was using BR-4s today, probably try 29.3, 29.5, 29.7, 30.3, and 30.5. First match is April 3rd, need to get on the ball.

adamj i shot mine sat morning, its was still very cold @35 deg F and im trying to chase the accuracry tune and i was at 30.8 Gr RL10 cci 450 66fowler .010 off the lands and was able to get a .249 5 shot group.so i need to find my tune back ,,but 4 of them 5 were in the mid .100's hung one out the top for a .249,, might have been me or the sun glare on my scpoe lens. but i need to fine tune this load my first match is in may 14th. im worried that my accuracry is kind of going away and wont be able to put a thumping on them ppc boys this year. might just have to bite my toung till i get my new one built for next year.
