sounds x rated but my throat is too deep

Danny please don't be insulted if I suggest .50 MOA - 1/2" @ 100 yards - is an unwarranted expectation. Precious few factory anything is capable of that level of accuracy. Were it otherwise there are a lot of savvy gunsmiths out there who'd be starving for lack of work.

(I just spent more than you probably paid for your SPS on a new barrel blank then having it chambered for 308 and fitted to an action I already had. If it ends up shooting 1/2 MOA - it's for Palma competition, we shoot out to 1,000 yards - I'll be very happy indeed.)

You'd not mentioned that particular goal of yours in your earlier posts. Knowing what you'd been expecting besides a reasonable seating depth for your hand loads would have been useful info.

Danny ,first off your barrel in .223 is only just broken in and you might need to try different bullets to iron out accuracy troubles such as the sierra 53 grain match bullet which has a flat base which I recommend in factory .223's. The bullet you use is fine but each rifle is slightly unique to each other. In my Remington .223 it likes 3 bullets, the 50 grain plhp Remington bullet using h335 powder, the next 2 are the 53 grain sierra and the 53 grain hornady match. Mine is a 12 twist, yours maybe a 12 twist or possibly a 9 twist. It would be good to know exactly which twist you have. With the slower twist I have found that most of them like bullets 55 grains or less. The faster twist you can go to 70 grains or so. If you had an 8 twist like my savage bench gun you go to 80 grain match or so.

i am pretty sure it is 1-12 i know it does not like heavy bullets 69gr bullets shot badly the 50gr are much better and sorry about the high expectations but it shot sub moa out of the box so i thought that adding a new stock and a timney calvin elite trigger should give me at least .50 in groups i have put over 500 bucks in the gun since i bought it not including the scope and the foster micrometer die and the rest and, and ,and seems like it never ends

Don't feel bad about your throat in the Rem being too deep. Had a brand new 270WSM from Rem that locked up on first round fired. Pressure signs unbelievable when finally got case out.

Exam from local smith found very short under SAAMI Throat. Shooter (not me)thought it chambered hard...

Lucky e did not lose his head.

It went back to Remington and they sent a blem/returned rifle in its place. Last time I bought a new Remington.

On the other hand, I have a 308 700VS from the 80's that shows only mild tool marks and shoots bugholes. So now I buy Rem, but only older ones.

Oh, and I also got a new rifle slug barrel for an 11-87 that had the ring that holds the barrel to the mag/gas assembly welded on "catty-wampus". When I went back to the dealer for a replacement, we found two barrels that lacked gas port drilling. Rem customer service got a call and they said "We build thousands of parts and occasionally we make mistakes". Uhuh, so do I, but I don't sell them and if one slips by, I own up to it and make sure it is fixed, right, plus, on account of the buyer hassle. No remorse, no offer to make it right from Rem. And I have been a fan for years. No more.

It is not uncommon to have a factory barrel with a very deep throat.
