Sorting 22 LR

Alright, let me re-ask the question, if shooting 5-7.00/box should I sort rim thickness or weight first?

Try sorting by the rim thickness, another group by the weight and another group with no sorting at all. Your gun is one of a kind and what works for others may not work with yours. I have found that my rifle is completely intolerant of winchester Western 22LR. The Remington green box 40 grain bullets do well in my gun. If I want to buy expensive match ammo it does a little better. In small bore silhouette competition we shoot standing with no support, no slings, shooting jackets or even an arm touching the body for support so you just have to build muscle control to steady your aim. It is also not unusual for the wind to be at 20 to 30mph. Having match ammunition is not going to make a big change in the number of hits. If I do my job I can hit all the targets in still air. Put some wind in the mix and all bets are off. It is not possible for me to hold steady when buffeted by winds. That is the challenge of the game!

We shoot BR 22LR every Thursday and have done so for 6+ years now. We have found rim thickness to not help, but weight sorting really works.

I use RWS R-50 and Eley Match.

Weight. Shot at an indoor range and weight was many times more valuable than rim thickness.

Everything from T-22 to the old PMC Match and Eley Club. I would shoot all of the similar weights and then the high and low mixed. The latter were definitely larger groups.
