I though some of the other hard core rifle nuts around here might enjoy looking at my newest toy. This rifle is a Bob Scoville barrel block LV ppc stock. The action is completely free floating, and the only thing holding all this in, is the two aluminum clamps just ahead of the action. Under the clamps are two sets of flat head screws that are adjustable. The barrel sits on these screws while the clamps hold it all down. That is it, thats all that holds this all together. The action is my beloved Borden rim rock. jim Borden sure does have a fine product here fellas. This action is just perfect. the timing is like no other action i have ever had. Talk about shoot. this action flat out shoots!! Heck it doesnt even seem to matter what barrel i put on it. this action always shoots well. Back to the stock. This stock has two different weight systems. The weight system in the back is fairly simple, or standard i should say. I have made a few different weights for it on my lathe, so i can tailor the balance depending what barrel i have on the rig. There is also a weight system that hangs under the barrel clamps. This weight is a little more advanced than a standard turned piece of steel. I dont have this weight yet, but the way i understand it, the weight has some springs and some type of fluid that soaks up the vibrations from firing the rifle. I will post more on that at a later date. this rifle also has a Jewell trigger, and a krieger 13.5 twist barrel. I took this rifle out this afternoon for a little test run, and the rifle performed flawlessly. I shot some nice groups in the 1's and low 2's in a 15mph crossing wind, and yes it was cold outside. I dont shoot 133 much in this weather, so the latest variety of pull down 8208 got the call. 8208 seems to do just fine in this weather. Anyway here are a couple pics for you guys to enjoy. All in all i think it will be a fine rifle. I hope you all enjoy the pics!

Very nice and great shooting.
I was shooting 133 in a .17 FB today at 20 degrees today and my groups didn't show anything hokey.
Tell me more about your findings please.

nothing hockey with 133, i just dont think its the best powder for a ppc in this type of weather. these stocks new are 1400 ish. I bought this one second hand. thanks Lee

Thanks Lee. So the barrel is jammed into the rings by the 4 screws below. Is there some sort of stop that keeps the barrel from slipping back under recoil?

Nope nothing else holds it. Just the clamping force orf the rings. Kinda like a scope sitting in a set of rings. I had the torque set at 35 inch pounds yesterday and it held for 3 groups then I went home. Today I have it set at 55 inch pounds as recomended to me. I will report lee

Lee,
If you don't mind, I would like to see a picture of the bottom of the stock, in the area of the barrel clamps.

no recoil lugs at all. just clamped in. Boyd i will take a pic here in a few. Yes this rifle is 10.5 pounds. Actually it weighted 10.2 pounds so i turned some weights on the lathe. now i am exactly 10 pounds 8 ounces. Lee

better get yourself one bear. Only takes about 1 year. LOL!! Thats crazy isnt it!! Craftsmanship doesn't come quick, or cheap! I am going to try and order a standard scoville stock with off set forearm, but in orange and black. I think that would look really sharp with a chrome moly BAT action. I also have a HV rifle with a standard scoville black stock, and it is by far my most accurate rifle. This red scoville is also very accurate. I credit a lot of this to my rim rock action. There is something special about this action of mine. Here is a crazy story for ya. I bought the rim rock action about 6 months ago and i didnt have any new blanks at the time and i didn't have any spare cash to buy a new barrel. What i did have was a half worn out Krieger barrel that had 700ish rounds on it and it really wasn't shooting all that well. i figured it was a good barrel for a set back. I sent the barrel off to a buddy of mine and had him use a new reamer i just acquired and he moved everything forward about .100. When i got the barrel back and screwed it on the rim rock i was quite surprised. the first day out with the freshly RE-chambered barrel and the new rim rock i didn't shoot any group bigger than a .260. I couldn't believe it! heck i was just about ready to sell that old barrel for a fire form ing barrel. I am sure glad i didn't. This barrel shoots so good i am seriously thinking about taking it to the super shoot this year. Well if i can quit shooting the darn thing. I am addicted to small groups, and i know this barrel will fill my fix, so i find myself taking it out to my range more than i should. LOL!! Anyway, back to the scoville stocks. These stock track like nothing else i have ever had. I am hooked on them to say the least. Lee

Wow... I thought about clamping a barrel down with a couple u-bolts from the hardware store but this is incredible. Admit it guys your minds are spinning right about now with crazy ideas.

Skeet thanks for the great pics were all drooling over that rifle porn.

I have had a couple PM's asking if these stocks are still being made, and as far as i know they are. There is a long wait time for them though. I do know were there is a used one for sale currently. And i have also been asked if these stocks can be used for HV and yes you can add weight to them very easily. Lee

I saw a couple at D. Bruno's...he had the clamp version and a couple others that were customers. Very nice in deed. I think if I was to get one I'd do the offset version and conventional bedding.
