Some thoughts on 6.5CM Elite Hunter's effect on Roe deer

First off, roe deer in Europe is a relatively small animal.

Secondly, I was shooting it today at about 120m. It was a little bit quartering away hight shoulder shot and I hit directly the scapula. The bullet did not penetrate the bone but was deflected away instead. The deer run about 50 meters and fell down but after couple of seconds was trying to get up and was preparing to run away (!). I was faster and finished the deer with a headshot, but hey- it was not supposed to happen. All youtube videos I watched about a high shoulder shot were saying that it is a kill switch.
It was a 140gr Elite Hunter over N555 and the shot placement was spot on. The shot angle was not perferct though.

6.5 creedmoor is sure overkill on those Roe deer. The old 6.5x55 Mauser was used a lot on them in EU.
That bullet being too heavy and at a bad angle just skipped on the bone.
The killing, high shoulder shot, is usually having the bullet places broadside, then it will enter and exit on the small deer like that, ricochet, per se.

Had a after thought. If you are going to use your 6.5CM, then obtain some loaded Barnes 123 TTSX or that bullet and reload, if you do some. I use those on my mule deer and blacktail and black bear and have never had a animal shot in heart/lung area go further than 10 steps. You will get a entrance and exit, or at lease I have.

Thanks for posting, it is very interesting to see how gent's in other parts of the world do, as well as the game. A lighter bullet would do better if you reload. Higher velocity at the cost of more meat damage though.
