soft seating

Hi
my gun of choice is a 6BR and I'm wondering how you go about loading if i want to use the soft seating method, I'm currently running on 1 thou neck tension do I just load maybe 20 thou into the lands and let the bullet push back into the case or is there a set length
any help much appreciated

You can do that, but it might not be the spot for best accuracy.
You need to try different measurements from jamming on back &
let the barrel tell you what she likes. This, along with different primers & powder
you will find your sweet spot.

hi thanks for the reply its does not seem to be a very popular way to go so I think I'll just leave it as only the one reply buts thanks for once again for taking the time to reply
best regards

I either load them .020-.030" long depending on which action I am using. One of my action seems to have a short camming depth, so I load .020" long. The other action I usually load about .030" long. I also experimented with using .0005" neck tension to get the neck tension light enough to allow the bullet to slide. To get the neck tension right, alternate between titanium nitride neck bushings and stainless bushings, they differ by .0005".
Also, don't have much faith in the number on the neck bushing, they are often slightly small than listed.

i tried this for awhile but found if there was any difference in neck tension the bullet seated to different depths, sometimes .005 in and this affected accuracy. i did find if neck tension equal and softseated the same, vary powder charge by .2 gr and i could find a good load with good grouping. i now use enough neck tension (.0015- .002) that bullets loaded .020 into the lands don't seat at chambering and i can start low and increase load until the holes overlap. the 6 BR responds to this process nicely but some cartridges are a bit more resistant.
