Soft Nose/Spitzer bullets in quick twist

Considering using my match rifle for some long range hunting, so I am wondering if anyone has run into difficulties using Horn/Sierra/Nosler soft nose bullets in quick twist bbls. Are the bullets holding up and doing the job?? Are there any accuracy problems?? Are these hunting type bullets compatible w/ quick twist bbls??

They work fine. The issue is with the super-explosive varmint bullets having a dead soft core and thin jackets. A fast twist will rip the hides off of them.

I used to shoot a 6mmRem A.I. with a 27" (I believe >> can't remember exactly) barrel.. It had a 1-8twist and I tried to shoot the 105 A-Max's... They held together, however, accuracy was so-so.. I changed to a 95gr Combined Technology Ballistic Silver-Tip. It was going 3400f.p.s. It was SUPER accurate and held together as far as flight goes. I shot a few whitetail in the rib-cage with it and dropped'em like lightening! However, I shot a HUGE Axis in the shoulder knuckle and it blew up on it.. After that episode I decided that a better bullet would do better. I switched to Barnes "X" bullet (there were no TSX bullets back then)... It was less than accurate... I turned that rifle into a 7mm-08... However, looking back, I should have tried the Nosler Partition. I believed it would have worked just fine!!

My 10 twist 308 LOVES sierra 125 spitzers! They group reaaallll well at 100 yards and are pretty explosive at over 3000 fps. Not had a jacket blow up yet. I keep these on hand as I shoot them in 308 and my 300 Blackout.

My Cooper 1-8" barreled 6.5-284 shoots the 140 Berger VLD's, Nosler Accubonds and Nosler Partitions to with about .75 MOA of each other at 100 yards. I zero for the VLD's and have a drop chart for them, but if a shorter shot presents itself, I use the Nosler bullets. Also works great for a mixed bag hunt such as Africa or out West when a deer/elk hunt is possible. I simply use the best bullet for each animal.

I've run Sierra 80gr Blitz at over 3600 in 6-284 and over 3500 in 6 Remington both 1:8 twists and never had a problem. These are varmint bullets with thinner jackets than than Game King or Pro Hunter bullets

What caliber are you shooting. The only time I've ever heard of people having bullets come apart are usually light 223s in high twist (like 1:7 or 1:8) barrels and driven to very fast velocities. Unless you are trying to shoot a 40gr 223 varmint bullet in a 1:7 at 3800 you are probably ok.
