So I won a custom rifle…

I won a coyote contest which awards me a
Blueprinted Remington 700 in any Short Action caliber of my choice, a Kreiger or Bartlein Barrel, Bedded in a MDT XRS Chassis (or equivalent pricepoint)

This will be a dedicated night coyote hunting gun and max distance of 300 yards. All tripod shooting. I don’t like to blow big holes in the animal either, I keep the nice pelts.

—Leaning towards a 4 groove Kreiger barrel with 700 varmint contour
—20” barrel length

—I need input on a Blueprinted rem700 vs the Solus actions ($150 charge for Solus)
—MDT XRS chassis VS something like a Bell and Carlson as seen in the link below. I like the look of a stock better, but I understand benefits of chassis

Cartridges of interest are…
-17Fireball
-204
-22arc
-6arc
-6creed
-22-250
-243
-feel free to recommend others

At the moment, I’m a factory ammo shooter. Friends and family handload though

Well I use 6 creed, 243, 22-250 and 204...plus 6br.
My 204 is easy on pelts but you get runners and nippers.
The 6 ceed and 243 are rough on fur but put coyotes down with authority.
I guess that leaves the 22-250 it works well within the range you want to shoot and there are lots of factory offerings. I would suggest a 1/12 twist rate so you could use 40 to 60g bullets.

What’s the fur report on that bullet?
Shoot the 50 gr V-Max for, the Shoulder = NO Exit !
Blows UP,.. Sage Rats to,. 250 yds.
Try, a Box for, yourself, to Be sure, as I've Only shot, a Couple of Yotes W/ this Bullet and NO, Exits, YET !
It's a "Tipped" Bullet so pretty Explosive ( Depending on, WHAT's ,.. Hit ! )
I've Had, a .22-250 Rem in my Battery of Rifles SINCE, the Late 1960's and Good Factory Ammo, is Usually Available,.. "Everywhere" !

.22-250 or 6 creed. I believe you can get Hornady factory ammo with 87gr VMax in the 6 Creedmoor. But that would still probably exit a coyote. If only using this rifle for coyote I’d say .22-250 with 50 or 55gr VMax.

Solus action for the $150 upcharge.

The ONLY Thing that, I'm NOT crazy about, the .22-250 Rem., Cartridge,.. IS having to, "Trim", the Cases more Often than some of, the other Cases,.. ( Yup,.. I Re-Load ! ).
BUT,. other than That,.. It's, a GREAT Round and,.. Very, Versatile,.. IMO
I've Shot MANY Yotes with, Factory 55 gr. Bullets when still, a Young Man,.. EVEN Shot, a couple of Deer with it.
Very Few Exits, Even with, the Old 55 grain, Factory SP's.
I'm on my Second, .22-250 Rem, it's a Braked, "Sporter" Barreled, Rem 700 L-H,. W/ a 6x-20x scope.
