Smooth bore rim fire barrels

Many years ago there was an article in I want to say Guns&Ammo that discussed the use of bb rounds in .22

From what I recall they obviously had good results with washed out barrels and even went as far as to lap the remaining rifling out of barrels that wouldn't shoot anymore for use in this application.

Has anyone on here had experience using these bb rounds and if so we're you using them in rifled barrels or did you lap an old washed out barrel for this application?

I have an old Remington Sportsmaster that is a smoothbore that I use all the time on starlings. Most of the time it gets fed birdshot and I have used the CCI bb 's but I do better with the plain birdshot. Works well out to 40-50 ft.

I have a factory savage with a smooth bore and it works better with bird shot too.
