Smk 175 in .308

My accurate load with 175 gr. Sierra is:
LAPUA FF'ed BRASS W/LIGHT TURNED NECK CLEAN-UP
175 GR. SIERRA TMK 2.181 O M 2.954 COL T/L B S .426
POWDER H-VARGET 43.6 GR. PRIMER FED 210GM M
SEATED @ 2.161 O M 2.934 COL .020 OTL 09/06/21
11 1/4 Tw. BARREL

Gotta love the 175 TMK's. They shoot lights out in my 24" Bartlein and 24" Krieger 308 Bisley chamber! I shoot them over IMR4064 myself.. Stupid accurate

Throat erosion in a .308"??? It's one of the easiest cartridges out there on throats. How many shots do you think it would take to move it .200"??? Never seen anywhere near that much erosion in a .308 even over thousands of rounds.
I'd say it takes about 11,000+ shots! ;) My previous barrel with 5,500 shots was just over .090" erosion.

My reference wasn't juts about throat erosion. . . it's about .020 off might be + any erosion.

It's just a load I keep on the shelf for "any 308" they dont care a whole lot about jump. I don't chase lands with that load. It's what I consider my "factory ammo"

OK. I don't really care about jump either, only about keeping seating depths consistent. It's just that knowing how far someone is off the lands really just doesn't give me any idea about the cartridge configuration. . . even given the little variation in SAAMI specs. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Not to sidetrack but how have you found AR-Comp's temp stability vs Varget?

It's effectively impervious to temperature. It's often out of stock, but when it shows up I've never had a problem getting 16lbs.

What have shooters of the 175 smk in a .308 found to be the best distance from the lands to be?
Thanks
Bill
I worked up some loads for a few AR-10's with the 175 TMK
OAL was mag length 2.800"
I used powder charge to dial in (43.0-45.0 grns W-760)
Shot great out to 1200 yds

So as others are saying, they don't seem to be length sensitive

Let me make this point as I have before . . . different guns/barrels have different freebores. If I say .020 jump works well for me and the freebore in my gun is .245 and you set your cartridges to that same jump, but you have a freebore of .180, that's a .065 difference and your bullet will be deeper into your case by that much and producing significantly more pressure and likely will not perform as well.
+ 1.

And, if velocity is mentioned, it helps to know barrel length.

My Palma gun with a 2011 Fullbore chamber couldn’t touch rifling with a 185 berger after 4500 rounds, mostly with H4895.

Jam with a 155 hybrid was 2.910” when new.
