Small Rifle Primer Question

Question: Does it make a difference between Magnum and regular Wolf Primers with light loads?
6BR, 65 to 88gr Berger for 200 yds.
Most loads are fairly light, up to 33 gr Varget depending on the bullet weight.
I notice that many loads referred to in this site are hotter and most recommend Magnum primer.
With Wolf Magnum primers, no flattening at all.

I know that I should try a 100 of each and see what my barrel likes. Unfortunately, availability is so poor at the local stores that I will need to place a large order and wait.

Thanks for your thoughts.

you will need a chronograph to measure the difference..I have experimented with them a lot over the years, and have never seen and real difference in them....I know what you mean about things being tough to get..Myself,I think it is only going to get worse.I am seening a drop in shooters already at our local F class shoots....At least 5 shooters not there...We have to hang in there though....

Well...whether fact or fiction, I'm told that Magnum Primers will give you a hotter, thus more complete burn of the gunpowder. I shoot almost exclusively 68 gr Bart's and Berger bullets in my 6mmbr at 100 yds. And now I'm going to fireform some new new Lapua 6br brass that I just expanded up for my 30br. So I dropped the load .02 gr because of the Mag Primers I loaded. Guess I'll find out what my rifle thinks of Magnum primers in 6br brass very shortly.

Magnum primer's contain more priming mixture and are therefore hotter. Whether that extra spark is going to provide better combustion is going to depend on the powder itself, the quantity of powder, the environment you're shooting in, and of course the rifle. What performs best in my rifle is not necessarily perform as well in your rifle.
